The Thirteen Problems

The unifying premise for this short story collection is the Tuesday Club: six people who meet socially one evening at Jane Marple's home and then decide to meet regularly each Tuesday night to solve a mystery which a group member must relate.

Cast of characters

Members of the original group are Jane Marple, her nephew novelist Raymond West, painter Joan Lempriere, clergyman Dr. Pender, solicitor Mr. Petherick and retired Scotland Yard Commissioner Sir Henry Clithering. Later joiners are Colonel and Dolly Bantry, physician Dr. Lloyd and actress Jane Helier.

Publishing history

Publishing: First published in 1932 by William Collins Sons & Co. in London, and as 'The Tuesday Club Murder' by Dodd, Mead & Co. in New York. The stories have not been adapted for stage or screen.

Agatha Christie always thought that Miss Marple was at her best solving short problems.
