Publishing: First published in 1920 by Bodley Head in London and New York. TV: Adapted for television in 1990 by LWT in Britain as part of the Poirot series, and also shown on PBS in the U.S.

Notes and reviews

The novel was Agatha Christie's first published work, and the first appearance of Hercule Poirot. Written in 1916, but not published until years later, after six publishing houses had rejected it. The publisher, Bodley Head, held the manuscript for eighteen months before making its final decision.
