Publishing history

Publishing: First published in 1924 by Bodley Head in London and in 1925 by Dodd, Mead & Co. in New York, this was Christie's fourth book and first story collection published. The author first titled the book 'The Curious Disappearance of the Opalsen Pearls', then 'The Jewel Robbery at the Metropolitan'; the publisher suggested 'The Grey Cells of Monsieur Poirot' and 'Poirot Investigates'. TV: All of the stories in the collection have been adapted by LWT as part of the Poirot series, and also shown on PBS in the U.S.

Notes and reviews

The short stories in this book were originally published in Sketch after the editor, Bruce Ingram, told the author that he would like to publish a series of short stories starring Hercule Poirot. The first story was published on March 7, 1923, and included the first illustration of the Belgian detective.
