Dead Man's Folly

Sir George and Lady Stubbs, the hosts of a village fete, hit upon the novel idea of staging a mock murder mystery. In good faith, Ariadne Oliver, the well known crime writer, agrees to organise the murder hunt. Despite weeks of meticulous planning, at the last minute Ariadne calls her friend Hercule Poirot for his expert assistance. Instinctively, she senses that something sinister is about to happen...

Publishing: First published in 1956 by William Collins Sons & Co. in London, and by Dodd, Mead & Co. in New York. TV: The novel was adapted by Warner Brothers Television in 1986 and starred Peter Ustinov as Hercule Poirot and Jean Stapleton as Ariadne Oliver.

Notes and reviews

The locations are fictitious but Charles Osborne suggest that Nasse House "big white Georgian house looking out over the river" was based on Christie's own house 'Greenway' and the river Helm was based on the DArt.
