For librarians

We know that Christie is one of the most borrowed authors in your library – currently in the UK she is number 8. So, are you a Library that loves Christie? If so, why don't you ...

Use one of Christie’s classic mysteries as the focus of a reading group for a month? Create a central display of Christie books, audiotapes, CDs and DVDs.

How about a two-for-one rental offer on your Christie audiovisual titles?

Engage a local expert on crime or crime writing to speak at your library on the history and development of crime fiction? Run a murder mystery evening?

Host an Agatha Christie quiz night? (Check out John Curran's factsheet)

Conduct an Agatha Christie discussion group in order to spark a debate.

Hold a period fancy dress competition: who is the best-dressed Miss Marple, Poirot, Tommy or Tuppence in town?

Stage a reading of one of Agatha Christie’s theatrical plays with library staff or perhaps the local amateur dramatics society?

And make sure you upload your events to the Christie Events page – and your photos too!

Christie Week

Many libraries put on displays of the Agatha Christie items they hold during our annual Christie Week (the week of 15th September) – a great excuse for lots of Christie activity. Supporting material for displays is available on request – and if you have any special plans or questions please do contact us and we will see how we can help.

These are just a few ideas to whet your criminal appetite. We’re sure you can think of many more.If your library is low on Christie books or your editions are looking a little tired, we particularly recommend the following publisher’s editions – in the US: Black Dog and Leventhal’s hardback editions and HarperCollins new trade paperbacks and in the UK and overseas, HarperCollins facsimile first editions and omnibus editions. Unabridged and dramatized audio versions of almost all of Christie’s novels and short stories are also available in library editions.

And the titles you should have on shelf – well we obviously think every library should have every Christie title – but you should definitely have multiple copies of the following!
